Rev. Precious Mays Matthews is the first daughter after four brothers (one of eight children). This is how she got the name "Precious" because her parents had given up on having a daughter. She grew up in the Englewood community on the South side of Chicago and was raised the majority of her life with her mother (who was a single parent) the late Rev. Katherine Mays.
